Collette is an Education Authority Northern Ireland approved supplier for yoga and mindfulness classes in St Bride’s Primary School.
Nursery & Primary School: In these sessions, Collette will guide the children through yoga stretching; movement, sounds, music, play and for the younger Nursery or Primary 1 to Primary 3 children – stories. Mindfulness activities are not limited to breathing activities and sitting still!
The sessions are educational and can be adapted to encompass PDMU and WAU activities. The classes are designed to be fun whilst teaching emotional well-being and self-awareness, encouraging self-motivation, self-control and resilience. We will explore various techniques to help children cope with anxiety or stress as well as encouraging team-work and good social skills. These sessions can be taught at a time to suit your school’s timetable.
Collette is also available to teach Yoga during the school day within the PE curriculum or as an After-School activity.
Post-Primary Schools The benefits of yoga are well documented and in brief, this form of exercise can lead to increased mental clarity, emotional stability, and a greater sense of overall well-being. Yoga is a weight bearing form of exercise which promotes bone growth. Yoga can help sustain a healthy and active lifestyle.
In yoga for Post-Primary pupils, the students are taught how to stretch safely, challenge themselves in the poses and practice various breathing techniques which can be used as a coping strategy in times of stress. Guided relaxations are also offered. These combine to support and strengthen us not only physically but also mentally by building confidence, body awareness, self-respect, improving concentration and promoting a sense of well-being.
Sessions for children with SEN are also available.
The yoga classes are particularly suited to children that do not particularly enjoy group sports.
The classes are approximately one hour in duration but can be adapted to suit the school timetable. The classes can be taught during the school day within P.E. curriculum or as an After-School class.
